POETRY SERIES

Recently I took a year off of painting to assess in which direction I wanted to go with my painting. I decided to take a break from figurative and landscape work. I spent the year deeply embedding myself in reading poetry. My reading selections were as varied as Pablo Neruda, Shakespeare, Wendell Berry, Mary Oliver, e.e. cummings, Robert Frost, just to name a few. It was a time of reflection. A time to examine my core values and where I felt most moved.

These paintings are the result of that exploration. They represent an attempt to capture the feeling of poetry in a nonliteral way. Pieces, fragments, and lines of the poems are imbedded in the paintings. The paintings themselves are executed on canvas or sanded board. The medium is mixed: oil paint, pastel, house paint, graphite, and pencil.
